l go ready to pull away and then realised that l had no power steering, got round the corner to find that l had no heater and also had no electric windows..?
They only work when l turn the key more and hold it in that possistion but l cant drive plus hold the key...What is the problem...only had this car amonth n ive paid out for a new clutch and gearbox....french rubbish!!!

Its not french rubbish, it just has not been looked after properly. Being a VTR l bet it has been abused in its life, & l doubt u needed a complete new gearbox, as l have NEVER seen a saxo with a knackered gearbox & l have worked with MANY THOUSANDS of them! You probably got a new gearbox because fixing it was beyond the ability of whoever replaced it. Further, Citroen do not manufacture their own electrics, it is usually done by Valeo (who ARE french rubbish!) or Bosch (who r GERMAN rubbish!)

Anyway ur problem is simple. 100% beyond any shadow of a doubt the fault is with ur ignition switch, which is why it works when u hold the key around more.
The ignition switch comes in 2 parts, there is the actual key barrel & there is the electrical switch on the back of the barrel, this switch is the faulty bit.
The correct solution would be a new lock set, as when u change the ignition barrel u will need a new key. However, if u can just get the ignition switch then u can remove the ignition switch & remove the electrical part from the barrel & fit the new switch to ur old barrel, which means u get to keep ur old key, do not need to change the other locks, & can avoid having to get keys programmed at a Citroen dealer.

The switch is easy to remove, first remove the steering cowling covers (20torx screws), then u will see the armoured tube that the ignition switch sits in. There is a small screw on the back of this that holds the barrel in place, remove this screw. Now look under the steering column & u will see 3 large, flat 2-pin electrical connections (probably black, grey & brown). Disconnect these.
Next insert ur key into the ignition & look carefully at the markings on the end of the ignition switch, u will see a position marked between the first two key positions, turn ur key to that position. This unlocks the securing tabs, which u can see poking through some holes in the armoured tube. Push in on the securing tabs & just pull the barrel out by the key. Getting the wires to come out through the armoured tube will be a little awkward, but do not rush it just be patient & careful.
When u have the ignition switch out u will see that the rear half is plastic with wires coming out of it, this is the bit u need to change.
Remove the torx screw that is halfway along the barrel & seperate the 2 halves carefully, noting how they go together. Pull the plastic bit off & chuck it away, fit the new plastic bit & reassemble in the reverse order to removal.

Oh, & if someone tries getting the barrel out of its armoured tube by opening up the armoured tube then they r a skilless butcher & l would not let them near ur car!
