l have a 1994 citroen ax the left indicator stays on when the brake is appiled and when you indicate left the both brake lights flash. any one know what this can be tried wiggling the multi plugs in the rear lights and cleaning them and none of the bulbs are blown. could it be a rely?

It is simply a bad earth. Electricity always takes the easiest route to earth, even through light bulbs. clean all connections on both light clusters and the earth connections. and your problem will be solved

Hi, the first thing to do is check all of the bulbs - it sounds from ur description that a single filament bulb may have been put into the housing of a double filament (i.e. sidelight/brakelight) bulb, or alternatively, the left side lamp ''cluster'' with all the bulbs may have an earthing problem. Check that the metal part of the bulbholder is making a good contact with the bodywork where it either screws or bolts into place, alternatively check the small wiring loom supplying all the bulbs for a separate earthing wire (usually colour coded black)
Hope this helps!

As stated , it is a bad earth. In this case likely to be rear light unit. as that is where both circuits would be affected together.

Check the retaining screws for rust,

it sounds like you have a wiring fault somewhere. Something could have shorted out or the wires may have shorted. If l was you l would trace the brake and indicator wiring round the car and try and find imperfections in the wiring

bad earth, the quick fix is a can of wd40 ,pull apart the connectors
and spray them, that will solve your problem.
