It will be fairly tough to do properly.

You will probably need to change wiring, suspension, brakes & cooling.

If he wants a faster car, he should buy a faster car. It will be cheaper & safer.

l had a thought. The chances r ur son will want to do something whatever car he has. There is be little point saying do not bother.

There r some changes which he could make which would make the car more enjoyable to drive - by adding options which r not offered by manufacturers. First up r polyester suspension bushes. They tighten up the steering response & give a more responsive ride. You could even get a wheel alignment firm to give u an extra degree of camber at the front to help. My second choice would be after market suspension. Third would be an induction kit. It wont make the car go any faster, but will sound nicer. Fourth would be a 4 into 1 exhaust manifold & a full length stainless steel exhaust. Over all, it wo not make much difference in raw performance, but it would make it much more fun to drive - it would sound & feel good.

You wont get ur money back, but it might be amusing.

The other thing that will make his car go faster r driving books; Speed Secrets spring to mind. If u get a copy & read it for yourself before handing it over, l reckon u will agree that that it may in fact make him a safer driver by understanding how cars behave.

There will be those that disagree with me, but I've driven some quick cars that have left me cold. I've also driven some engaging cars which have been slower than diesel Skodas. It is all about how they make u feel.

Surely that means buying another engine and replacing the whole thing. This would be very diffficult.

And do you think your son should be encouraged to break the law by speeding around town?

Easy when you know how and have the equipment, far from easy if you don't. You will have to upgrade a lot more than just the engine, plus tell your insurers ,of course. It'd be lot simpler (and probably cheaper) to buy a more powerful car

Difficult, complicated and risky for his safety.
Better buy a factory-prepared faster car.

It is a very big job and he will need special tools to do the job ,and when the engine has been change he will have to inform the insurance company .
i say leave well alone.

Hi what l found is on ebay its an modifaction chip which requires no wiring easy install & take off within 5 minutes adds +45-50 bhp which ur son should find suffix added this to my nephews 1.4 corsa also does not void any warranty as it is not actually wired into an ecu or engine managment program. l am dozy but l installed it had to take his car for service & removed chip & no one noticed. Approx £60 from demon tuning on ebay. And no need to tell insurance company as not a fully installed mod & a much cheaper alternative to a new engine or superchip hope this helps

u will find everything u need in here http://saxosportsclub.com/index.php?name=Search .. l take it hes got a west coast 1.4 well if hes looking for fun make sure u put the vts 16 16v in cos its a heck of a lot quicker than the 16 8v lump.. l have the vts & l tell ya its fun to drive putting a lot of the big cars to shame like BMW 325 , Honda prelude 2.2, rs turbos Astra is 2.0 16v need l go on lol. its basically straight forward as the mounts r the same so go for it & make sure hes careful cos there r pocket rockets & with a turbo fitted boasting right he will blow of BMW m3 is like my own its banging out 194 bhp at the wheels & that is a lot having saying it only weighs about 2 pound of sugar lol.. good luck with the wee saxy ;)
