Xsara 2.0 hdi 1999, light to the left of the main airbag warning light sometimes flashes for up to 30 seconds on a cold start. The light looks something like a tap with dots falling out of it.

l have no handbook so stuck as to what the light means. Any help appreciated. l did take it to a dealer who claimed he could not tell me anything without putting the car on the diagnostic computer.

Sounds like it is either water or oil. Have you checked your levels lately? Only need to worry if it stays on or keeps coming on.

It looks like you are low on coolant or washer fluid, open the bonnet and check them, also, find another garage.

** I've had a rethink and maybe it is the water trap on your fuel filter that needs emptying**

As it is a diesel this could be the heater plug warming up. The light should go out before you activate the starter.

l have a XSARA and have not seen this light on before. Mine is not Diesel. So this light is one of three: water in fuel tank, low cooling water level or simply windshiled water level.
Check all three and if the light is still flashing, check it on computer.

This could be the oil level warning light, if the oil level is just below the max mark on the dipstick it is ok, the sensor may give a false reading when the oil is thick and cold. l will try and find a Xsara handbook at work on Monday and see if there is any other similar warning lights.
