My Citroen Xantia Stop light comes on intermittently. What could be the problem?

It is a 1.9 Diesel without a hand book. The hydraulics seem to be OK. The light comes on at startup then stays on and goes off when it feels like it. It comes on when you are driving along, then either stays on or goes off again. Flickering intermittently

check the negative which fastens to the lights near the brake light usuall a poor connection als chech the brake pedal switch it could be loose when you press the footbrake it could be faulty

Check out the switch. It could be faulty and became more sensitive for pressure. Switch should be in line with the hydraulic pipes somewhere near the servo unit.

All Peugeots and Citroens have a electrical problem.Never heard of someone who could not complain this. l suggest to go at an authorized service..they will fix it.for 2 weeks.after that, the problem will show again.

l take it most are from yanks, l also presume you mean the lamp on the dash, 3 things cause this to illuminate, 1. handbrake on. 2.low brake fluid level. 3.worn brake pads. that is all, so check hand brake switch, fluid level, pad thickness.
if unsure take it to a garage, brakes are the most important thing on your car.
good luck

it is probably the hydrloic fluid
here is how to test the level
start the engine, put the suspsension into the highest level and wait till it settles, that is when u check the level (on the tank that silver disc should be between the 2 orange lines
