USA has strict safety laws and alot of forgein cars do not meet them. Could also be import regulations.

renault is a french car. was sold in usa till they were bought out. citroen is a french car, sold here. simca also. they are not popular, and when they require service, there are no parts. l see that as the main issue.

very simple,,SUPPLY AND DEMAND,,they make few cars and ones they make wouldnt appeal to american consumer..no luxury,,no sport, just plain cheaper made cars that you cant get parts for.most dont even have air,,,,trust me you know that if they made cars that would sell here an american wouldve already bought a franchise here,,,just plain jane cars w/no options available,,also europe has tariffs that are ridiculous...jim

Because it is like a war zone on our highways. And you know how the French are when it comes to fighting anyone.

The French build terrible cars and the market in the US is already saturated. They simply can not compete in this market. Renault used to be sold here in the states but not anymore. l think Peugot still sells Mopeds here in the US. That is about it.

It costs quite a lot to certify cars for sale in the US (emissions, crash testing, etc) so an automaker has to count on large sales to spread the cost.

French cars tend to have less features & sell for more $$$ than comprable cars from American, Japanese, German, Korean automakers.

And the French sometimes do like things ''their way rather than tailoring the cars for the target market. So. if u like the styling, seating & controls on a Peugot, you're in. Otherwise, u would not buy one, especially if u can get a better deal on a Toyota or Chevy that fits u better.

It is also why we do not see Italian cars like Fiats & Alfa Romeos. Fiat (parent company) has figured it can make money on Ferraris instead.

American car are getting killed in the US. A French car does stand a chance.

Americans are used to certain standards of reliability, and are not inclined to maintain vehicles to the standard required of French vehicles. No french manufacturer has been able to install the infrastructure necessary to support their sales

Popular names for French models might be the ''Je Surrende ''Vichichy ''Collaberator or ''Le Fromage du Nazi''. It must be a marketing thing.
